Door of No Return
Much of my time in West Africa was spent visiting forts that became the holding places for the Africans that were captured to be sent to the new world as “slaves”. The common thread of the slave castles, were that they each exhibited their version of “doors of no return”, whatever the language. It was reminiscent of watching a horror show with a repeating theme. “Door of no Return” Cape Coast, Ghana; Oudah Benin; Goree Island, Senegal all left their tainted memories with me. Thousands of captives were taken in chains, and put on ships in the 18 th and 19 th centuries. This piece is creating the time to hope and dream of all the possibilities that wait beyond the DOOR OF NO RETURN. #Iam #winsomwinsom #healer #visionary #womanartist #CanadianArtDaily #canadianartist #arte_magazine #installation #artcurators #teacher #artcaninstitute #CBCArts #agotoronto #rodmanhallartcentre #blackwoman #spirituality #ancestors #Africa #Belize
